![]() Liz Weir is a professional storyteller and writer from Northern Ireland. Formerly children’s librarian for the city of Belfast, she now travels the world telling stories to adults and children. She organizes workshops, appears at major international festivals (including the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee and the Australian National Storytelling Festival) and has performed in Israel, Germany, Australia. Other festivals in the United States include Timpanogos, the Hoosier, and the Bay Area. Weir was the first winner of the International Storybridge Award from the National Storytelling Network which cited her “exemplary work promoting the art of storytelling within Ireland and between other countries.” Saturday, April 17, 2010 Old First Presbyterian Church (Fellowship Hall) 1751 Sacramento St. San Francisco Corner of Sacramento and Van Ness There may be a $6 parking fee Workshop: $25 SAC members $30 non-members Concert: $10 SAC members $15 non-members Workshop - 2:00–5:00pm: Shortening the Road: Using Storytelling for Conflict Resolution Storytelling can play a vital role in promoting understanding between people of different faiths, nationalities and abilities. This workshop will examine the practical ways in which communities can engage in the sharing of stories which are held by the individuals within them. Based on many storytelling projects which have taken place in Northern Ireland both during the conflict and in the post-conflict years, the lessons learned can be replicated in many other communities worldwide. January 16: Storytelling for Beginners‐‐‐Everything you always wanted to know about storytelling but were afraid to ask! What to do, where to go, how to find stories of your own. If you love listening to tales and would like to learn to tell them, this workshop will guide you on your way. 1‐4 PM January 30: My name is Maynard Moose‐‐‐How to create an original puppet character, bring it to life, and teach it to tell stories. Co‐taught by Maynard Moose, 2009 Ruminant of the Year. 1–4 PM February 13: Out of Thin Air‐‐‐How to make up original tales to tell. An easy, fool‐proof (even Jack‐proof!) method for making up and telling stories from imagination. Participants are guaranteed to come away with a new story to tell! 1–4 PM February 20: In Yonder’s Wood‐‐‐(evening concert with Brian Claflin) Traditional ballads and story‐songs from the British Isles, Appalachia and the American West.
