About Us

The Storytelling Association of Alta California (SAAC), doing business as the Storytelling Association of California, a 501c3 non-profit, is a regional voice for story listeners and storytellers in California, reminding the local and national community of the power and the joy of storytelling.

SAC Mission Statement
"To promote Storytelling as a living art. Grow and nurture small storytelling groups; create opportunities for communities to hear storytellers from many cultures; disseminate information about traditional and contemporary storytelling; and cultivate storytelling opportunities through networking, training and education."

Our Story
SAC (formerly SAAC) grew out of the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, an annual multicultural weekend of storytelling produced entirely by volunteers. The success of the Festival required a formal organization behind it. Discussions were held with festival goers, storytellers, and story swapping groups around the San Francisco Bay, and there was a consensus that the community of story listeners and storytellers in Northern California needed a voice. So rather than create a not-for-profit organization solely focused on producing art programming, a membership organization was born.
