SAC Mission Statement
"To promote Storytelling as a living art. Grow and nurture small storytelling groups; create opportunities for communities to hear storytellers from many cultures; disseminate information about traditional and contemporary storytelling; and cultivate storytelling opportunities through networking, training and education."
Our Story
The Storytelling Association of California (SAC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a voice for listeners and storytellers in California, reminding the community of the power and the joy of storytelling.
SAC, our non-profit membership organization sponsored the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, an annual multicultural weekend of storytelling since 1982. 2016 was the 30th year of producing BASF, and the end of this precious event. However, storytelling is still very active!
SAC continues to support:

Our Story

SAC continues to support:
- Annual Tellabration!, a world wide public story event.
- Upcoming festivals such as the Wine Country Spoken Word Festival in Petaluma.
- Regional Gem, honoring a gem of a teller and supporter of California storytelling.
- MythOff, an event where any may apply to tell a myth from a chosen culture.
- Local Story Swaps, local tellers, wanna-be tellers, and listeners gathering for a monthly telling.
- Out-of-Towners, storytellers from outside California offering a workshop and/or story concert.
- Silk Road House events in Berkeley. Monthly traditional tales of Central Asia and around the world.
- The Jenny Memorial Fund, donations from SAC members, which supports storytelling at local schools.
